Columbus, Georgia, 2016— Dawnell Jacobs, a local Georgia Educator, just released her novel on Amazon, Kindle, and by request at local bookstores in hopes that it will become a New York Times best seller.
At 17 years old, Dawnell Jacobs was homeless. Her mother, due to a mental illness, abandoned Dawnell Jacobs and her three younger siblings in the care of social services. She had three siblings ages 3, 5, and 7. At seventeen, she promised her siblings that she would get them out of the foster care system. Now, 16 years later, at the age of 34, Dawnell has raised her younger siblings, earned two degrees from Columbus State University, and has decided to enter the world of publishing.
Her novel is a fictional romance that contains traces of her actual life. Readers will fall in love with the characters Yasmin as they witness her struggle to gain custody of her little brother after her mother’s suicide. Desperately, trying to keep her family together, she looks to her friends for help. However, unlike the author’s life, Yasmin can only find help from an illegal immigrants with a dark and tragic past named Nisay. In exchange for her hand in marriage and a green card, he promises to help her restore her family. Yet, Yasmin is reluctant to fully devote herself to a man and a culture she knows nothing about despite Nisay’s romantic gestures. Her self-destructive nature causes her to make a decision that ultimately hurts them both and endangers their arrangement. The characters learn the true definition of love and devotion as they become entangled in each other’s tragic stories.
