Georgia Educator Goes from Homeless to Home Publishing with Her New Novel, The Shade of Devotion by Dawnell Jacobs
Columbus, Georgia, 2016— Dawnell Jacobs, a local Georgia Educator, just released her novel on Amazon, Kindle, and by request at local bookstores in hopes that it will become a New York Times best seller.

At 17 years old, Dawnell Jacobs was homeless. Her mother, due to a mental illness, abandoned Dawnell Jacobs and her three younger siblings in the care of social services.  She had three siblings ages 3, 5, and 7. At seventeen, she promised her siblings that she would get them out of the foster care system. Now, 16 years later, at the age of 34, Dawnell has raised her younger siblings, earned two degrees from Columbus State University, and has decided to enter the world of publishing.

Her novel is a fictional romance that contains traces of her actual life. Readers will fall in love with the characters Yasmin as they witness her struggle to gain custody of her little brother after her mother’s suicide. Desperately, trying to keep her family together, she looks to her friends for help. However, unlike the author’s life, Yasmin can only find help from an illegal immigrants with a dark and tragic past named Nisay. In exchange for her hand in marriage and a green card, he promises to help her restore her family. Yet, Yasmin is reluctant to fully devote herself to a man and a culture she knows nothing about despite Nisay’s romantic gestures. Her self-destructive nature causes her to make a decision that ultimately hurts them both and endangers their arrangement. The characters learn the true definition of love and devotion as they become entangled in each other’s tragic stories.

Current reviewers have stated that this novel is “a master piece,” an amazing book that truly moved,” keeps them “turning the page,” and they “but I couldn't put it down.” The Shade of Devotion, “grabs your attention and sends you on an emotional ride of triumph, romance, love and pain.”

From Homeless to Home Publishing, Dawnell Jacobs Debuts the first Novel in her trilogy, The Monsters Within: The Heart Of Darkness

Columbus, Georgia, 2015 — Dawnell Jacobs just released her debut novel on Amazon, Kindle, and by request at local bookstores in hopes that it will become a New York Times best seller.
At 17 years old, Dawnell Jacobs was homeless, her siblings ages her three younger siblings ages 3, 5, and 7 were in the care of social services, and her outlook for the future looked hopeless. At seventeen, she promised her siblings that she would get them out of the foster care system. Fifteen years later, at the age of thirty-three, Dawnell has kept her word and accomplished even more; she adopted and raised her younger siblings, she earned two degrees from Columbus State University, and now, she has decided to live her dream by entering the world of publishing.

Her novel is a fictional thrill ride that contains traces of her real life story. Readers will fall in love with the character Imani, and witness her struggle to adopt a little boy that comes from a troubled home. Although, Imani is coping with the loss of her mother and struggling to overcome her own anger with her abusive father, she finds purpose in 11 year old Andrew. Unfortunately, unlike in the author’s life, the situation for her characters do not have such a happy ending. The characters learn the true definition of what it means to be a monster as they become entangled in dark secrets, fear and betrayal.

Current readers have stated that this novel is “thrilling” and keeps them “turning the page.” The Monsters Within, “grabs your attention and sends you on an emotional ride of triumph and pain.” It has been described is a “provocative look into the world of abuse.” The novel is the first book of a trilogy, and is sure to keep readers wanting more.
